The USB Sound is an audio controller designed for USB connectivity. It requires driver or application software support for two specific sampling rates: 32kHz and 44.1kHz. It also supports a sampling rate of 48kHz for digital recording, as well as 48kHz for analog recording and digital/analog audio playback.
When operating in digital playback mode, the USB Sound receives an audio stream from a PC through the USB interface. It then transmits the audio data according to the AES/EBU, IEC60958, and S/PDIF consumer interface standards. However, only PCM audio from the R and L channels in a 5.1 channel setup can be conveyed in this mode.
In analog playback mode, the USB Sound utilizes a 6-channel codec to support analog playback. For digital recording, the USB Sound receives S/PDIF digital audio input and sends it back to the PC via USB. It automatically locks the sampling rates for 32kHz and 44.1kHz internally. In analog recording mode, it exclusively supports a fixed sampling rate of 48kHz for analog audio recording.
